As seminary students, we are called to serve God and His people. However, it can be easy to get caught up in our own plans and desires for ministry. But what does the Bible say about God's sovereignty? In Psalm 135:6, it is written that 'the Lord does all that He pleases.' This verse should give us pause as we consider our roles in His kingdom.
God's plan is not limited by human understanding or limitations. He is the one who ordains and appoints leaders for His church (Acts 14:23). As students, it is essential to recognize that God is the one who gives the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6-7) and that our role is to be faithful in serving Him.
As we seek to serve God in ministry, it is crucial that we remain humble and recognize His sovereignty. Pride can quickly creep into our hearts, causing us to think that we are the ones who are truly accomplishing great things. But this is far from the truth.
In Isaiah 2:22, it is written that 'cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils.' This verse reminds us that we are mere mortals, and our accomplishments are nothing compared to God's power and authority.
So what does this look like practically? How can we apply these principles to our daily lives as seminary students?
First and foremost, it means recognizing that God is the one who gives us the gift of salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9). We must not take credit for His work in our lives.
Secondly, it means being willing to surrender our plans and desires to Him. This may mean taking a step back or adjusting our expectations.
